Daniel Hart is an artist based in Newton, MA. In addition to painting, he has also been known to experiment with printing photographs and create multimedia projects under the auspices of dan-e-art.
"In the past two years, my work has progressed dramatically. I have integrated my previous path of exploration of experience expressed principally in photography with a new direction of exploration of process. The effect is an exciting body of work that goes beyond the bounds of traditional painting and exposes the process of art.
In this new body of work I value the experience of creation more that the beauty of the final product. My narrative is process. I feel that it is in exposing the process that I can connect with the viewer. My six-year old daughter proclaimed boldly one day in her art class, “There are no mistakes in Art! I know because my Dad’s paintings are very messy.” We are always in the process of developing something in our lives, and the final artistic product is in some effect the result of suspending this process long enough to display the work. Exploration is key."
These paintings are the result of a major exploration of the capacities of paint. The process was to introduce paint to the canvas, and then edit back, add layers, or complement with found objects. The materials that I use for medium and support include recycled latex house paint, discarded metal plates, rubber mats, shingles and Styrofoam. The piece entitled “Plastic Guts” is a painting made on the back of stretched canvas that is still covered with plastic wrap. The “paint peel” piece is a sheet of latex paint that was poured into the back of a canvas and then peeled off after drying. The “Ice Blue” piece is actually a wash of acrylic that was poured into the back of a painting and frozen outside in the winter.
I hope that you find interest
and curiosity in these paintings.
